Before

The garden had had one previous owner and had hardly been touched. It was a straightforward shallow rectangle shape, with a large shed in one corner. It was also overlooked and needed some re-direction or screening. For some people this kind of garden can be quite daunting.

The client had added some small trees to help break up the fence line but really wanted help to develop a wildlife garden, including a pond, and to create a more interesting focus. She was a keen gardener and had a variety of shrubs and perennials that she wanted to include in the new garden.

After

To disguise the large shed and ‘working’ area of bins, compost, veg growing and potting on, a curved bed and path broke up the lawn expanse and guided people to the areas of importance.

To disguise the shallow nature of the plot, the pond was constructed towards one of the corners. A seat with an arch over was positioned behind the pond to further emphasise the focus as well as giving somewhere to watch the wildlife. This seating is also hidden from over-looking houses and feels enclosed as the planting has developed around it.
