Overgrown to clean lines

The clients wanted a garden for relaxation and entertaining friends, with clean lines and a modern planting style in keeping with a recent house renovation and large new patio.

The lawn had been used as a play area for many years. The borders were overgrown, neglected and weedy and the fences were falling down. An area at the back needed the play bark lifting and turf to be laid. It was damp with a very clay soil so doesn’t drain very well.

Landscapers cleared the borders, re-turfed part of the lawn and installed new fencing along all the boundaries.

The clean lines of the slatted fencing allowed some light through, whilst still maintained privacy.

The mixed planting included standard holly trees as lovely focal points at the end of the garden, grasses, hebes, pittosporums, a cherry tree and silver birch.

The trees help to absorb the high water level in the garden, along with ferns, evergreen shrubs and perennials which will cope well with these conditions.

Over time the new fences have silvered and the planting has filled out, slightly softening the edges but maintaining the clean lines and structure the client wished for.
