FAQ
1. Why should I use a garden designer?
Lots of reasons! Here a just a few:
A well-qualified garden designer is a great source of ideas for your garden – ideas that will work going forward. Garden designers are trained to understand the landscape, soil and structure of a setting. They know the best place to put patios, paths and planting in order to improve drainage, avoid issues of subsidence and develop a garden that will stand the test of time. They can enhance features, disguise eyesores and use their extensive plant knowledge to create beautiful, tranquil spaces that improve wellbeing.
2. How much will it cost?
Each design is individual to the client, different people have different budgets and it is important you have an idea of how much you are willing to spend.
Price depends very much on the size and style of garden that you want. A larger area will obviously cost more money to build. Luxury materials such as porcelain or York stone cost considerably more than other paving materials. However, if your budget is more modest, compromises can be made, for example by having a smaller patio area or using smaller plants which will grow over time rather than planting more expensive, large plants. Alternatively, you could have a full design drawn up but complete it in stages, as and when finance allows.
3. Can I use a builder for my patio?
You can…but you would get a much better result by using a professional landscaper. Builders make great houses, landscapers make great gardens. They each have their own specialisms and knowledge to build different structures. By all means use your own contractors, but I advise you to use the specialists.
4. Can I have garden lighting?
Yes. If electric lighting is required this will be installed by a qualified electrician or garden lighting designer if you want a bespoke system. If you wish to have candles or solar lights, this is much easier!
5. Who will do the work?
Tanya will do the design work and will work with landscapers for the build work. Tanya will complete the planting, possibly with a team, if this is for a large garden or involves larger trees or shrubs.
6. Can I re-design part of my garden?
Yes. You don’t need to have all of the garden re-designed. If you have an area you don’t know what to do with, or need to find space for a new greenhouse area, then just re-design that.
